LTC 130-2002 CITY OF MIAMI BEACH Office of the City Manager Letter to Commission TO: From: Subject: Mayor David Dermer and Members of the City Commission Jorge M. Gonzalez ~ City Manager 63RD STREET FLYOVER Date: May 22, 2002 In response to Commissioner Steinberg's request for a commission discussion of the maintenance of traffic (MOT) plan related to the scheduled construction of the 63rd Street Flyover, please be informed that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has this project scheduled for construction in FY 2004/2005. At this time the design plans by FDOT are only 30 % completed, a private engineering consultant firm (Madin Engineering) will complete the final design of the plans, inclusive of a revised MOT. The FDOT 30% plan contains a primary MOT plan, which is conceptual in nature. There will be further refinements and changes to the MOT plans as the design of the overall project progresses. The Administration is currently working with FDOT and its design consultant to resolve and minimize the anticipated impacts to the community and motoring public during the project's construction period. Many of the proposed changes to the project's design will effect its construction schedule and MOT plan. The Administration and FDOT will be in a better position to assess and answer questions related to the MOT of this project in September 2002. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact me. JMG\RCM/B/~J cc: Robert C. Middaugh, Assistant City Manager Fred Beckmann, Public Works Director Joseph W.
