RESOLUTION NO. 2002-24872
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO INITIATE DISCUSSIONS WITH MIAMI-DADE
COUNTY REGARDING THE COSTS INCURRED BY THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH IN CONNECTION WITH THE CITY'S
MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS OF THE BEACH, WHICH IS
DESIGNATED AS A REGIONAL PARK.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach has been operating and maintaining the pUblic
safety functions on the public beaches within the City of Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, the City's functions include the City's Beach Patrol and beach
maintenance, up to the boardwalk,or the dune, where a boardwalk does not exist; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach costs in connection with said services exceed
several million dollars, and
WHEREAS, on May 22, 2002, at a Special City Commission meeting, the Mayor
and City Commission discussed initiating discussions with Miami-Dade County to address
the City and County's respective responsibilities and obligations on the Beaches and these
regional park costs.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby authorize the City Manager to initiate discussions with Miami-Dade
County regarding the costs incurred by the City of Miami Beach in connection with the
City's maintenance and operations of the Beach, which is designated as a regional park.

Adopt the Resolution.
ANALYSIS
On May 22, 2002, at a Special City Commission meeting, the Mayor and City Commission
discussed initiating discussions with Miami-Dade County to address the City and County's
respective responsibilities and obligations on the Beaches and the costs incurred with
same.
The City of Miami Beach has been operating and maintaining the public safety functions on
the public beaches within the City of Miami Beach. The City's functions include the City's

exceed several million dollars.
CONCLUSION
It is recommended that the Mayor and City Commission adopt the attached Resolution
authorizing the City Manager to initiate discussions with Miami-Dade County regarding the
costs incurred by the City of Miami Beach in connection with the City's maintenance and
operations of the Beach, which is designated as a regional park.
