RESOLUTION NO. 1812
RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA,
PASSED AT ITS REGULAR MEETING, JUNE 20th,
192g.
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the Mayor and
City Council of Miami Beach , Florida, that an application
has been filed with the office of the United States Engineer,
at Jacksonville, Florida, by Bay Biscayne Bridge Company, of
Miami, Florida, for permission to close to navigation from
7 P. M. until 7 A. M. from May 1st to November 1st of each
year, the East draw span of Venetian Causeway across Biscayne
Bay, Florida, and,
WHEREAS, approximately $ 2,000,000. worth of public and
private improvements have been or is now under construction
in the City of Miami Beach since January 1st , 1928, a great
deal of the material thereof being transported through said
span, during the hours which said span is proposed to be
closed; that contractors engaged in said work maintain float-
ing plants which from convenience or necessity must sometimes
be moved through the draw span; that the boat slips are North
of this span and many yachts and boats of other descriptions
belonging to private owners and residents have occasion to
use this span during said periods, that should said city add
a fire boat to its equipment , which it now has under consider-
ation, the free and unobstructed use of said draw span would
be imperative at all times, and,
WHEREAS, after due consideration thereof, the said
Mayor and City Council have reached the conclusion that it
is not to the best interests of the City of Miami Beach, the
residents thereof, the industrial businesses and organizations
therein, and the public generally, that said draw span should
be closed to navigation,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the said Mayor and

objection and disapproval of said plan, and respectfully
request st and urge the said United States Engineer' s Office

to deny said application but on the contrary continue to
require the said Bay Biscayne Bridge Company to keep, at
all times, the said East draw of said Venetian Causeway
open to navigation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolu-
tion bep resented to the United States Government repre-
sentatives at the public hearing to be held at 10 A. M. )
