AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1605
BEING THE UNCLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES SALARY
ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, ESTABLISHING THE CLASSIFICATION OF
POLICE COMMANDER; AMENDING THE COMPENSATION
FOR THE CLASSIFICATIONS OF POLICE PLANNER
AND POLICE SYSTEMS MANAGER; REPEALING ALL
ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the following two lines in Section 1 of Ordinance No. 1605, are
hereby amended to read as follows:

is held invalid, the remainder shall not be affected by such
invalidity.
SECTIOON 5: This ordinance shall become effective 10 _ days after adoption
on August 3 , 1991.

SUBJECT: PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO UNCLASSIFIED SALARY ORD. NO. 1605
The Administration requests permission to establish a new,
unclassified classification in the Police Department; that of
Police Commander, with a beginning salary of $52 , 675.80. The
creation of this classification is in keeping with the Police
Department's continued efforts to civilianize key areas, as
recommended by the IACP Study. Establishing two Police
Commander positions allows the department to decrease the
number of Captain positions by two, as also recommended by the
IACP Study.
In addition, the Administration requests permission to reduce
the beginning salaries in the current Salary Ordinance No.
1605, for Police Planner and Police Systems Manager from
$50, 604.25 to $40,466.75.
SOURCE OF FUNDS
The reduction of two Captain positions to two unclassified
Police Commander positions will result in a total salary
saving of $4, 143 . The reduction of the beginning salaries for
Police Planner and Police Systems Manager will result in a
total salary saving of $20, 274.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION
The Administration recommends that the City Commission approve
the new classification of Police Commander, and the salaries
for Police Planner and Police Systems Manager be reduced as
indicated.
