OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER
NO. LTC#
600-2017
LETTER TO COMMISSION
TO: Mayor Dan Gelber and Members t the City C f mission
FROM: Jimmy L. Morales, City Manag
DATE: December 15, 2017
SUBJECT: TEMPORARY SKATE PARK UP ► ATE
The purpose of this LTC is to update the City Commission on the implementation of the temporary
skate park at the City owned lot between 82nd street and 83rd street, located on the west side of
Collins Avenue (referred to as the "82nd Street West Lot").
The City Commission authorized the execution of an agreement with the vendor, Velosolutions
USA LLC, on October 31, 2017 by way of Resolution No. 2017-30086. Since then, the City has
negotiated with the vendor, and the vendor has commenced the design phase of the skate park.
Along with Parks and Recreation staff, the vendor met with the Building Official for direction and
comments on the project plans developed thus far. The vendor was directed to complete the plans
as discussed, and consult with an engineer to sign and seal the drawings.
Due to Hurricane Irma and the upcoming holidays, the vendor has encountered difficulty obtaining
a commitment from an engineer prior to the second week of January 2018. Based on these
constraints, the City was faced with one of two options: building a basic skate park with removable
features by December 30, 2017, like City of Miami's Omni Skate Park depicted in Exhibit A, or
adjusting the timeline to allow for the construction of a fully functioning park with fixed features as
illustrated in Exhibit B. To better serve the needs of the community and provide a more
aesthetically pleasant facility, staff is moving forward with the latter option
To date, partial plans have been submitted to the Building Department for review, and the project
is on track for a February 2018 completion date.
