SUBJECT:
AMENDMENT OF CHAPTER 20 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH ENTITLED "BUSINESS LICENSES".
ADMINISTRATIVE RECOMMENDATION
The Administration recommends that the City Commission adopt on
second reading the attached ordinance amending Chapter 20 of the
Miami Beach City Code as outlined herein.
BACKGROUND
A review of the sections of our existing license ordinance that
deal with art galleries was instituted in response to numerous
comments from gallery owners. At the conclusion of our study, it
was determined that most galleries offer a limited number of
showings per year as opposed to businesses which maintain a daily
inventory of art. Based on our findings, it is thereby recommended
that a flat fee of $300 per year for art galleries would be more
equitable.
Heard and approved at first reading on September 13 , 1994 .
ANALYSIS
The proposed amendment establishes a separate category for art
galleries with an annual license fee of $300.
CONCLUSION
The Administration has concluded that adoption of this proposed
amendment will provide a more equitable license fee for art
galleries.
