ETTER TO COMMISSION
mission
SUBJECT: VENETIAN CAUSEWAY GREEN`BICYCLE LANES
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to provide an update on the implementation
of green bicycle lanes along the Venetian Causeway. This project furthers the City's goal of
creating a green bicycle lane network.
The Venetian Causeway was identified in the adopted City of Miami Beach Bicycle -Pedestrian
Master Plan as a priority bicycle corridor due to its high usage and connectivity. Given the low
speed and low traffic volumes along the Venetian Causeway, the existing bicycle lanes are
utilized by a high number of visitors and commuters as their primary connection between the
City of Miami Beach and City of Miami. In continuing the expansion of the City's Green Bicycle
Lane network, the City's Transportation Department engaged a contractor and collaborated with
Miami -Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department to secure a permit and
execute a maintenance agreement for the implementation of green bicycle lanes on the
Venetian Causeway within the Miami Beach city limits.
Although the initial plan was to only implement the green bicycle lanes within our City limits, the
County has agreed to fund and coordinate the extension of the green bicycle lanes to the
western terminus of the Venetian Causeway in the City of Miami.
The implementation of the green bicycle lanes along the Miami Beach portion of the Venetian
Causeway began on December 11, 2017 and will have duration of 14 work days. The schedule
observes the holiday season and, as such, no work will occur from December 21, 2017 to
January 3, 2018. The project is anticipated to be completed on January 11, 2018, weather
permitting. As per the approved maintenance of traffic plan, the sidewalk and bicycle lane will be
closed during the course of the work; however, vehicular travel lanes will not be affected.
A Public Information Officer was engaged for this project and a Project Fact Sheet (Attached)
has been distributed to affected residents. This project will have some impact to residential
driveways adjacent to the Causeway.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Bike Miami Beach
Green Bike Lane Proiect on Venetian Islands
Project Overview and Scope
As part of improvements identified in the Bicycle
Pedestrian Master Plan recently adopted by the
City Commission, the City of Miami Beach
Transportation Department has engaged the
services of Atlantic Paving to install high -emphasis,
green -painted bike lanes on streets within South
Beach.
The next segment of bike lane painting will extend
along the east and west side of the Venetian
Causeway from San Marco Island to Purdy
Avenue. As part of this project the County will be
working with the contractor to paint the bicycle
lanes to the west end of the Causeway.
The painting operations are anticipated to be
performed Mondays through Fridays from about 7
a.m. to 3 p.m. Impacts to driveways are scheduled
to begin at 9 a.m.
Vehicles will not be able to enter or exit
properties during the painting operations for
approximately eight hours. Side street access
will also be restricted within the active work
zones.
Project Benefits
Green -painted bike lanes organize the streets
visually and physically so that all users may feel
safe on the roadway. They make cycling safer by
reminding motorists to watch out for cyclists when
driving. Green bike lanes send the clearest
possible message that roads are not only for cars.
Timeline
Work will be performed at one street location at a
time. This work is expected to begin on Monday,
December 11, and anticipated to end January 11,
2018. Please note this schedule may change due
to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
