2017-30097 ResolutionRESOLUTION NO. 2017 -30097 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH TO RETROACTIVELY ACCEPT CASH AND IN -KIND DONATIONS FROM THE PROCTOR AND GAMBLE COMPANY, GENERAL MILLS INC., PARTICIPANT MEDIA LLC., AND PENGUIN RANDOM HOUSE LLC., IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $16,667, FOR THE WONDER #CHOOSEKIND INITIATIVE; AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR HIS DESIGNEE, TO MAKE SUCH EXPENDITURES AND /OR REIMBURSEMENTS CONSISTENT WITH THE AFORESTATED EVENTS AND PURPOSES. WHEREAS, in November 2017, the City of Miami Beach ( "City ") participated in the Wonder #ChooseKind City initiative — a campaign conducted in partnership with City of Kindness, Lionsgate, and Participant Media, which invited people in cities across the country to participate in kind acts as part of World Kindness Day on November 13, 2017; and WHEREAS, this initiative culminated with a special screening of the film Wonder in Miami Beach on November 16, 2017; and WHEREAS, the theme of the movie Wonder worked hand in hand with Miami Beach's City of Kindness initiative, which engages local communities by encouraging residents, visitors and employees to practice kindness in every area of their life -- spreading love and positivity throughout the urban island; and WHEREAS, the City secured cash and in -kind donations in the total amount of $16,667 from The Proctor and Gamble Company, General Mills Inc., Participant Media LLC., and Penguin Random House LLC.; and WHEREAS, the Administration recommends the retroactive approval and acceptance of cash and in -kind donations, in the total amount of $16,667, from the above -named sponsors of the Wonder #ChooseKind initiative. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby approve and authorize the City Manager to retroactively accept cash and in -kind donations from Proctor and Gamble Company, General Mills Inc., Participant Media LLC., and Penguin Random House LLC., in the total amount of $16,667, from the above -named sponsors for the Wonder #ChooseKind initiative; and further authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to make such expenditures and /or reimbursements consistent with the aforestated events and purposes.
