Resolution 2246 RESOLUTION NO. 2246 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIALI BEACH: FLORIDA. WHEREAS , the Amphitrite , a three-story floating hotel or barge , isnowd anhas beenanchoredin BayBiscayneinIthenchannel between what is known the oHotel ar within the City limits of Miami Beach; and WHEREAS , in the opinion of the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, a dangerous condition has been thereby created, for the following reasons : 1 . That the bay bottom in the area generally surround- ing the present location of this boat has been cleared of sand and other loose material in past dredging operations with the result that the smooth rock bottom is entirely unsuitable for anchorage of large boats. 2. That by reason of the proximity of this boat to the main government ship channel and the poor anchorage facilities provided in its present location, there is a strong possibility that in case of a storm of even moderate intensity that it might obstruct said channel and thereby isolate the Miami harbor for a long period of time . 3 . That it draws approximately ten ( 10) feet of water, the approximate depth where it is now anchored; that it is located between the two causeways connecting Miami Beach with the mainland; that in case of storm or severe wind, it would probably tear loose from its anchor and either sink in the channel or be driven into either one or both of said causeways , causing great damage and pos- sibly isolating Miami Beach from the mainland. It might also be driven to either shore line , thereby greatly damaging private property. 4. We believe this to be a very real danger as practically all of the damage done to the causeways during the storm in 1926 was caused by barges and boats pounding against the viaducts . _ and bridges , none of the said boats and barges being of the size , weight and potential menace of the barge in question. 5. Locations are available in the lower bay where this boat might be anchored where good anchorage is available and where general physical conditions are such as to preclude an gt possibility of damage to the ship channel or to surrounding property in case of storm and it is believed that this location could be used without inconvenience to the owners of this vessel . NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the United States government be and it is hereby earnestly requested to cause to be removed the said floating hotel or barge from the waters ad- jacent to the City limits of Miami Beach.
