A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING A DONATION OF THIRTY (30) TREES
FROM DESIGN MIAMI II, LLC, WITH THE INTENT FOR THE DONATED TREES
TO BE PLANTED AT CITY PARKS OR OTHER SUITABLE LOCATIONS WITHIN
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH THAT MAY BE IDENTIFIED BY THE
ADMINISTRATION.
WHEREAS, on October 22, 2014, the Mayor and City Commission approved the design of
the Convention Center Expansion & Renovation Project, which included the replacement of the
existing 5.8 acre surface parking lot known as P -Lot with a public park; and
WHEREAS, on July 26, 2017, the Mayor and City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2017-
29964, approving a revised concept design for the urban park, to include an open area large enough
to accommodate staging for events such as the annual Design Miami show; and
WHEREAS, on October 18, 2017 the City Commission approved a multiyear License
Agreement with Design Miami II, LLC, for use of portions of the P -Lot for a period of approximately
two months each year, to continue holding the Design Miami Shows adjacent to the Miami Beach
Convention Center; and
WHEREAS, at the 2017 Design Miami Show, West 8, the Landscape Architecture Firm
designing the P -Lot Park, was invited by Design Miami to create its welcoming plaza installation with
a Florida's landscape and environment theme, which also alluded to the future design of the park; and
WHEREAS, as part of West 8's installation for the 2017 Design Miami Show, thirty (30) gumbo
limbo trees, have been brought in to create this exhibit, and as a gesture of goodwill, Design Miami
has offered to donate these trees to the City of Miami Beach upon the conclusion of the 2017 Design
Miami Show, for planting in the future park, or elsewhere in the City, at the City's discretion.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the Mayor and City Commission hereby accept the
donation of thirty (30) trees from Design Miami II, LLC, with the intent for the donated trees to be
planted at City parks or other suitable locations within the City of Miami Beach that may be
identified by the Administration. J

RECOMMENDATION.
Adopt the Resolution.
ANALYSIS
On October 22, 2014, the City Commission approved the design of the Convention Center Expansion & Renovation
Project, which included the replacement of the existing 5.8 acre surface parking lot known as P -Lot with a public
park.
On July 26, 2017 the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2017- 29964 approving a revised concept design for
the urban park to include an open area large enough to accommodate staging for events such as the annual Design
Miami show.
On October 18, 2017 the City Commission approved a multiyear License Agreement with Design Miami II, LLC, for
use of portions of the P -Lot fora period of approximately two months to continue holding the Design Miami Shows.
At the Design Miami 2017 Show, West 8, the Landscape Architecture Firm designing the P -Lot Park, was invited by
Design Miami to create their welcoming plaza installation with a Florida's landscape and environment theme, which
also alluded to the future design of the park. Thirty (30) gumbo limbo trees (one of the tree species selected for the
future park), were installed to create this exhibit, and as a gesture of goodwill, Design Miami has offered to donate
these trees to the City of Miami Beach upon the conclusion of the 2017 Design Miami Show.
CONCLUSION
The Administration recommends the approval of this Resolution accepting a donation of thirty (30) trees from Design
Miami II, LLC, with the intent for the donated trees to be planted at City parks or other suitable locations within the
City of Miami Beach that may be identified by the Administration.
