Resolution 2408 J."--' , RESOLUTION NO. 2408 WHEREAS, the Government is building an Intra- coastal Waterway from Jacksonville to Miami, which would be of inestimable benefit to our community, and, , WHEREAS, certain sections of this work are now in process of construction, and, WHEREAS, February 19th, 1931, the District Engineer's office at Jacksonville received and opened bids for the Biscayne Bay section, which extends from the Miami Turning Basin to Baker' s Haulover, but rejected all bids, and proposes to abandon said work, and, WHEREAS, it would be to the interests of Greater Miami and of South Florida to have this work done at this time, thereby giving relief to the unemployment situation, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council of the City of Miami Beach that the Government be asked to reconsider the matter for the purpose of having the Biscayne Bay Section of the Intracoastal Canal started immediately for the reason that besides giving to Greater Miami Area a much needed inland waterway, the work at this time would help relieve unemployment and would I involve an expenditure of large sums of money in our community which would greatly benefit all mer- chants and business men. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to Senator Fletcher and to Representative Ruth Bryan Owen with the request that they take up the matter at Washington for the purpose of having the work started immediately.
