Resolution 2408 J."--' ,
RESOLUTION NO. 2408
WHEREAS, the Government is building an Intra-
coastal Waterway from Jacksonville to Miami, which
would be of inestimable benefit to our community,
and,
, WHEREAS, certain sections of this work are
now in process of construction, and,
WHEREAS, February 19th, 1931, the District
Engineer's office at Jacksonville received and
opened bids for the Biscayne Bay section, which
extends from the Miami Turning Basin to Baker' s
Haulover, but rejected all bids, and proposes to
abandon said work, and,
WHEREAS, it would be to the interests of
Greater Miami and of South Florida to have this
work done at this time, thereby giving relief to
the unemployment situation,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor
and City Council of the City of Miami Beach that
the Government be asked to reconsider the matter
for the purpose of having the Biscayne Bay Section
of the Intracoastal Canal started immediately for
the reason that besides giving to Greater Miami
Area a much needed inland waterway, the work at
this time would help relieve unemployment and would
I involve an expenditure of large sums of money in
our community which would greatly benefit all mer-
chants and business men.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this
resolution be sent to Senator Fletcher and to
Representative Ruth Bryan Owen with the request
that they take up the matter at Washington for the
purpose of having the work started immediately.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 1st day of April,
A. D. 1931.
