Resolution 2439 RESOLUTION NO. 2+39
WHEREAS, a great many demands have been made
on the City Council for public funds to be used to
defray the cost of conventions held or proposed to
be held in Miami Beach or in the Metropolitan Miami
Area, and,
WHEREAS, it is the belief of the City Council
that the benefits to be derived from gatherings of
this nature are to a large extent confined to res-
taurants, hotels and apartment houses and other bus-
inesses of the same or similar character which derive
a direct revenue from such gatherings, and,
WHEREAS, general conditions are such as to make
it imperative that the assets of the City be con-
served in every manner possible consistent with the
progressive, orderly development of the City, to the
end that tax levies be kept within the ability of
the property owners to pay.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Coun-
cil that it is the sense of this body that in the in-
terests of the preservation of real estate values,
everything within reason be done to relieve real es-
tate from burdensome taxation, and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that no appropriations
be made by this City Council from public funds in
the immediate future for the purpose of financing
conventions or for other special purposes except of
an emergency nature or for the development or pre-
servation of public property.
