Resolution 2478 •
RESOLUTION NO. 2478
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City
Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida that quite
an epidemic of Infantile Paralysis exists at present
particularly among the children, in some of the north-
ern and eastern states, and,
WHEREAS, many of our local school children are just
now returning from summer visits in said affected districts,
and,
WHEREAS, we are informed that it has been deemed
advisable by the Dade County School Commissioners and our
local School Trustees to establish a rule prohibiting any
child from entering our Public Schools until they have been
present in the State of Florida for a period of two weeks,
and,
WHEREAS, we have observed that the children returning
from outside of our state, while not attending school, are
nevertheless mingling elsewhere with other children through-
out the city,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the said City Council
of the City of Miami Beach that we urgently recommend to
the Dade County School Commissioners and to the School
Trustees of Special School District #14 that they take the
further precaution, against the possible spread of this
dreaded epidemic, of requiring all school children returning
to the City from outside the State of Florida to report
daily to the City or School Health authorities for health
examination during the two week period following their return.
