Resolution 2497 RESOLUTION NO. 2497
WHEREAS , in the development of air commerce be-
tween North and South America this port has become an
important port of entry for the transportation of air
mail , air express and air passengers between the
United States and the Bahamas , Cuba , the West Indies ,
Central and South America , and ,
WHEREAS , in the development of this commerce it
has become necessary to provide adequate port facili-
ties in Biscayne Bay for the handling of the large
seaplanes which are being constructed for use over
these International air routes , and ,
WHEREAS , in the development and construction of
these port facilities it has become apparent that the
depth of water in that portion of Biscayne Bay suit-
able for use by these seaplanes is not sufficient to
accommodate or permit the proper handling or docking
of these seaplanes , and ,
WHEREAS , by reason of this lack of water depth
the development of this air mail , express and passen-
ger business is being seriously jeopardized and imped-
ed to the detriment of the general commerce of the
United States with these Central and South American
countries as aforesaid ,
NOW , THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUN-
CIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH , FLORIDA , That the
Mayor be and he is hereby empowered , authorized and
directed to take such steps through our representa-
tives in Congress as are necessary to properly pre-
sent these facts to the Governmental authorities of
the United States , and ,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED , That the Government of
the United States be requested to undertake such
dredging in Biscayne Bay as is necessary to provide
the depth of water essential to the development and
construction of proper terminal facilities for this
air commerce of the United States with these coun-
tries as aforesaid.
