A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA,
CALLING A SPECIAL ELECTION AT WHICH
THERE SHALL BE SUBMITTED FOR THE AP-
PROVAL OF THE FREEHOLDERS THE QUESTION:
"SHALL THE CITY COUNCIL BE AUTHORIZED
TO LEVY NOT IN EXCESS OF TWO MILLS ON
THE DOLLAR FOR PUBLICITY AND ADVERTIS-
ING PURPOSES FOR THE YEARS 1933 AND
1934."
WHEREAS, Section 43 of the Charter of the said City of
Miami Beach, as amended by the Legislature in 1933, provides,
that, notwithstanding the Charter provision for a Publicity
Fund not to exceed one mill on the dollar of the taxable cash
values of all property in said City, both real and personal,
the City Council shall have authority to levy for Publicity
and Advertising purposes one additional mill on the dollar,
provided, however, such additional levy shall have first been
approved by a majority of the freeholders of said City who
vote at a special election to be held for said purpose every
two years, the first of said elections to be held prior to the
fixing of the annual tax levy for the fiscal year commencing
November 1st, 1933, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the said City of Miami
Beach is desirous of submitting to the freeholders of said
City for their approval, the question as to the authority of
the said City Council for the levy of the one additional mill
as hereinbefore provided,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
Sect o 1: That a special election is hereby called and
directed t 'held at the City Hall in the City of Miami Beach,
Florida, f om eight o' clock A. M. , until Sundown on the 11th
day of July, A. D. , 1933, for the purpose of submitting to a
vote of the duly registered and qualified voters of said City
who are freeholders therein, the question whether the City
Council shall, for the years 1933 and 1934, have the authority
to levy for Publicity and Advertising purposes, a maximum of
two mills on the dollar of the taxable cash value of all prop-
erty of said City, both real and personal, as provided in Sec-
tion 43 of the City Charter, as amended in 1933.
Section 2: That the City Clerk, who is also supervisor
1 of registration, open the books of said City from ten o'clock
A. M. , until four o' clock P. M. , each day, Sundays, holidays
and half-holidays excepted, from this date until July 3rd, 1933,
for the purpose of registering those persons who are qualified
to register for such election.
Section3: That Lincoln Brown,JT., M. H. Farr , and Jere-
miah Weissbe and they are hereby appointed inspectors and
W. H. Webb is hereby appointed clerk for the purpose of
hold-
ing and conducting said election
at the time and place aforesaid,
which names the City Clerk shall certify to the Mayor.
Section 4: That said inspectors and clerk shall certify the
result of said election to said City Council within five days after
the holding of said election.

Section 5: That thirty days notice of said election
shall be given by the Mayor of said City by posting the
notice hereinafter provided for at least thirty days prior
to the date of said election in three conspicuous places in
said City,to-wit: at the Police Station, at Fire Station No.
2 and at the City Hall, and shall be published once each week
for four consecutive weeks next preceding such election in
the Miami Beach Times , a newspaper published in
the City of Miami Beach, Florida, and of general circulation
in said City.
Section 6: That said notice of election shall be in sub-
stantially the following form:
NOTICE OF SPECIAL ELECTION
Notice is hereby given that an Election has
been called by the City Council of the City of Miami
Beach, Florida, and will be held in the City Hall
in said City, from eight o'clock A. M. , until Sundown
on the 11th day of July, A. D. , 1933, at which there
shall be submitted to the duly registered and quali-
fied voters of said City who are freeholders therein
the following question:
"Shall the City Council of. the City of Miami
Beach, Florida, have the authority, for the years
1933 and 1934, to levy for Publicity and Advertising
purposes, a maximum of two mills on the dollar of the
taxable cash value of all property of said City, both
real and personal, as provided in Section 43 of the
City Charter, as amended by the Legislature in 1933?"
Inspectors and a Clerk have been appointed to
conduct said election at said time and place.
The registration books will be open from ten
o' clock A. M. , until four o' clock P. M. , each day,
Sundays, holidays and half-holidays excepted, from
this date, until and including July 3rd, 1933, for
the registration of persons qualified to register
for said election.

Section 7: That the form of ballot to be used at said
election shall be in substantially the following form:
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA,
SPECIAL ELECTION
July 11th, 1933.
Make a cross (x} before ,your choice:
(Here shall be inserted the proposition set
forth in the election notice provided by this
resolution and at the end or immediately after
such proposition as set forth, there shall be
printed a short line followed by the word
"Yes" and a short line followed by the
word "No" .
Section 9: This resolution shall be effective
immediately upon its passage and adoption.
