AN ORDINANCE OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AMENDING
ORDINANCE NO. 789, THE CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES
SALARY ORDINANCE, ESTABLISHING THE
CLASSIFICATION OF CRIME ANALYSIS SPECIALIST;
PROVIDING FOR A REPEALER, SEVERABILITY, AND
AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, there is a need to create a position in the Police Department that will
gather, analyze, and present crime data and statistics to assist in the prevention and
reduction of criminal activity.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the following lines be added to Section 1, Group IV.A and Group IV.B
of Ordinance No. 789:

SUBJECT: PROPOSED AMEN MENT TO CLASSIFIED SALARY ORDINANCE NO.789
ESTABLISHING THE CLASSIFICATION OF CRIME ANALYSIS SPECIALIST
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION:
The Administration recommends that the Mayor and City Commission adopt this ordinance on
second reading amending Classified Salary Ordinance No. 789 to establish the classification
of Crime Analysis Specialist.
BACKGROUND:
On March 6, 1996, the Commission met and approved this Ordinance on first reading. The
Police Chief requested the establishment of the classification of Crime Analysis Specialist. The
job specification for this classification was presented to and approved by the Personnel Board
on February 16, 1996.
ANALYSIS:
Establishing the classification of Crime Analysis Specialist would provide for an appropriate
civilian title and salary range for the position responsible for analyzing, organizing, and
presenting crime data and statistics. This includes analyzing pertinent reports; monitoring
computerized and other data; and obtaining criminal and intelligence information from local,
state, and federal agencies. The primary purpose of having this type of specialized position
in the City is to assist Criminal Investigation Division investigators reduce organized crime,
narcotics, and juvenile gang activities as well as helping to deter burglaries, robberies, and auto
thefts.
CONCLUSION:
It is recommended that this amendment to Ordinance No. 789 be adopted on second reading.
