Re: AGENDA ITEM—COMMITTEE FOR QUALITY EDUCATION IN
MIAMI BEACH SCHOOLS
******************************** :***************************************
The commission was recently involved in issues concerning North Beach Elementary and
Biscayne Elementary affecting the quality of education in those schools. Historically the
city government has been a passive observer with regard to the schools in our city. I
believe that has to change. The education of Miami Beach children is of paramount
importance, and the city government should play an active and continuing role to assure
that they get the best education possible.
I am requesting the city attorney to draft a resolution for the next commission meeting
establishing a Committee for Quality Education in Miami Beach Schools. I suggest that
the membership of this permanent committee be composed of the presidents of all of the
PTA's, a city commissioner, and an assistant city manager. The role of the committee
should be to guide the city's efforts on behalf of our schools.
