RESOLUTION NO. 3269
WHEREAS , consideration is being given to the construc-
tion of a cross state sea level ship canal through the State
of Florida, and
WHEREAS , the City of Miami Beach and a large number
of other southern and central Florida cities are at present
blessed with a splendid natural underground water service ,
which same is one of our most valuable and necessary resources,
. and
WHEREAS, a preliminary study by the State Geologist
has produced a question in the minds of many of our well in-
formed citizens as to whether or not the construction of the
proposed sea level canal would interfere with or tend to'
contaminate this present underground flow of fresh water,
and
WHEREAS,any interference with or contamination of our
present water supply would naturally have a very disastrous
effect,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA , in regular meeting assembled
that we hereby respectfully request that a full and comprehen-
sive survey be made of the underground waters in the central
and southern portions of Florida to determine the effect the
construction of the proposed sea level canal will have on the
said underground water supply before construction of the con-
templated canal is begun, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution
be sent to the President of the United States, a copy to
each of our Senators and Members of the National House of
Representatives, Governor David Scholtz, General E. M. Markham,
Chief of Engineers, and to the Federal Emergency Administra-
tion of Public Works.
