R. F. France dies

Miami Beach and Bal Har-
bour.
Mr. France, 83, died yes-
terday at a convalescent cen-
ter.
One of the early architects,
to design oceanfront hotels,
Mr. France came here from
Chicago in 1931 and estab-
lished the firm of Roy France
and Son.
His first hotel design wat-
that of the Whitman, the
first Depression era. hotel
here, which since has been
torn down.
Then he designed the
Edgewater Beach, Patrician,
Shoremede, Ocean Grande,
Sands, White • House, Nation-
al, Sea Isles and Versailles,
before World War II' inter-
rupted construction.
His . postwar .designs . in-
cluded the Monte Carlo, Ca-
sablanca, Kenilworth, Sea
View and Cadillac.
"Let in the air and sun,"
Mr,,,.,F ce-Tee said in ex -
planing his }'favorite motif.

His last major design was
the North Hialeah Baptist
Church. He retired in 1969.
Services will be at 1 p.m.
