fired a one-two punch Friday at
the Miami Beach council can-
didate who has accused him of
being a former Ku Klux Klans-
man.
Frink, seeking re-election, fil-
ed a $100,000 slander suit
against NIeyer "Mike Faust" Go-
lub, the candidate who in his
spare time is vice-president of
the Island Club, a bust -out gam-
bling joint operated by Sam Co-
hen of the Miami Beach S. & G.
horsebook syndicate and the no-
torious Jack Friedlander.
In a separate action, At-
torney Louis M. Jepeway,
Frink's attorney, released to
The Herald a photostatic copy
of an S. & G.' payroll check
Issued to Golub.
The check, dated May 7, 1949,
is marked "Payroll Check" and
is for 889.40 drawn on the Mi-
ami Beach First National Bank.
The check hears the signature
of Leo Levitt, brother of Syn-
dicate boss Jules Levitt.
Jepeway said:
"I am not at liberty to say
from whorl or where the
check was obtained."
The 8100,000 suit was filed in
Dade county Circuit court Fri -
day.
In a statement, Frink said:
"I am filing this suit for
Golub's vicious and slanderous
attacks on me which are false
and without foundation.
"This has been done for two
reasons: one, I want to state
in open court under oath that
I and not now nor have I
ever been a member of the
Ku Klux Klan; two, to clear
uiy name once and for all.
"I have no interest in profit-
ing financially from this suit
and I will turn the proceeds
over to Jewish, Catholic and
Protestant charities of Miami
Beach."
