The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to inform the Mayor and the Commission that a
low -floor and high -floor trolley will be displayed at Rebecca Towers (Alton Road/2 Street) on Tuesday,
February 27, 2018 from 2 PM to 3 PM for a side-by-side comparison. The low -floor trolley on display
will include the following recently implemented modifications intended to improve passenger comfort
and convenience (see Attachment).
• New footrest for high bench above front right wheel well
• Storage rack above left front wheel well
• Rear support railing
• Longer leather straps
• Raised benches above the rear wheel wells to allow for more passenger legroom
At its February 21, 2018 meeting the Neighborhood/Community Affairs Committee (NCAC)
recommended that the Administration display the improved low -floor trolley at Rebecca Towers for
community feedback prior to implementing similar modifications to all 12 low -floor trolley vehicles in
the City's fleet. Hometown Trolley has committed to performing the above described modifications at
an estimated cost of aooroximately $400 per vehicle (total cost of $4,800 for all 12 low -floor trolley
vehicles).
The funding required for implementation is currently available from trolley operating savings.
The anticipated timeline for implementation of the above modifications to all 12 low -floor trolley
vehicles is approximately four (4) weeks.
In addition, the City will install wider bottom and back seat cushions for various benches in all low -
floor trolleys.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
