' City of Miami Beach Committee for Quality Education Meeting of February 27, 2018 Members Present: Beverly Heller, Beth Edwards (PT), Karen Edelstein, Judith Berson -Levinson, Tiffany Heckler, Jill Swartz, Karmencha Santana -Vega, Faiza Liban, Joshua Levy, Yudy De La Nuez, Mary Keinath, Betsy Mateu, Yvette Tache, and Ivan Alvarez Members Absent: Joshua Levy and Beth Edwards Motion made by Beverly Heller Motion seconded by Dr. Karmencha Santana -Vega Motion Text: The Committee for Quality Education requests the Miami Beach Mayor and Commission work with Miami -Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) to allow more than one form of radio communication between M-DCPS police officers and Miami Beach police department, and to encourage the use of one radio frequency between these police agencies. The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 9-3 Motion made by Tiffany Heckler Motion seconded by Faize Liban Motion Text: The Committee for Quality Education requests the Miami Beach Mayor and Commission direct the City of Miami Beach police department to develop a solution with the M-DCPS police that solves the communications barriers between the two agencies, especially as it pertains to real-time emergency situations. The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 12-0
