OPENING OF THE NEW FLAMINGO PARK POOL
The Administration is pleased to inform you that the City has officially accepted the newly
constructed Flamingo Pool. The Recreation Division took full occupancy on Monday, June
24, 2002, and is preparing to open it for use by our summer recreation programs on
Wednesday, June 26, 2002. For the remainder of this week the pool will be used by the
summer program participants for swim testing and learn-to-swim classes.
The 8-lane pool will open to the general public for lap swimming on .Saturday, June 29,
2002, at 6:45 A.M. The entire pool facility including the water playground will be open for
the first session at 9:00 A.M. The pool will be operated on a "session" schedule. Each paid
admission will be issued a colored wristband (coded by the specific session) that will entitle
the individual to enter the pool for a specific time period. At the conclusion of the specified
session the swimmers will be asked to exit the pool and a new session will begin according
to the schedule swim times for another group of paid admissions. This method has been
implemented at other local pools that have these types of faculties (water playground and
pool) and has proven to be the most fair and equitable method to ensure everyone has
access to the facility. Attached for your information is a copy of the Flamingo Park Pool
hours of operation, including the "session" schedule for the summer season as well as the
"welcome back" admission fees. The Administration intends to present a new fee structure
for the pools that will be comparable to other municipal facilities in our area at the July 16,
2002, Parks and Recreation Commission Workshop.
We are currently planning a "Grand Ribbon Cutting" for the pool on July 9, 2002, in the late
afternoon. An invitation will be sent to you under separate cover.
vise if you have additional questions, comments or concerns.
