Dear Mr. Johnson:
This is in response to your recent inquiry regarding the scope of work for the 63~ Street
Flyover/Bridge Rehabilitation project.
The bridge project will include the rehabilitation or replacement of the existing machinery,
control systems, ~huctural components, building facility and the bridge approaches. It is the
Department's intent to maint:~in vehicular trai~c on the bridge during construction. A set of
moveable leaves could be placed in the open position in order to replacc the machinery/motors
while the other leaves are set in the closed position allowing vehicular traffic to cross the
waten~y. We anticipate minor disruptions to the tcaffic flow, as well as to the marine traffic,
during construction, but we will be working with the City to develop maintenancc oft~ffic plans
that achieve the requirements of this project and meet the needs of the City.
In an effort to ex.dire the cor~U-~ction of these projects, we will be moving fonvard with ad,lln~
incentives and ai.~iacentives to the comstruction co~act. We ask that thc City reconsider the
limitations on wot!ring hours so that we eon maximize the work effort and expedite this project as
much as possible. As I mentioned at our meeting, the width of the bridge will not change. The
typical section at the bridge will l~nain as is.
We look forward to working with the City on this very important project. Later this year we will
be conducting public information meetings to let the community know the progress of the project.
In the m~mtim¢, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Dennis Fernandez, the
D~pmlment's Project Mange?, at (305) 470-5569.
Sincerely, /1 I .
