RESOLUTION NO. 2002-24931
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SIGN
ALL CONTRACTS, AGREEMENTS, PURCHASE
ORDERS, AND CHANGE ORDERS REQUIRED TO MAKE
PREPARATIONS BEFORE AND CLEAN-UP EFFORTS
AFTER STORMS DURING THE 2002 HURRICANE
SEASON IN THE INTEREST OF THE HEALTH, SAFETY
AND WELFARE OF CITIZENS AND EMPLOYEES OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH.
WHEREAS, it is possible that during the 2002 hurricane season, the City
of Miami Beach may be required to make preparations before, and clean-up
efforts after, a storm in the interests of the health, safety and welfare of citizens
and employees of the City, which will require emergency contracts, agreements,
purchase orders, and change orders in excess of the $25,000 limitation of the
authority of the City Manager; and
WHEREAS, it is requested that the City Manager be authorized to
proceed with the award of any such contracts, agreements, purchase orders, and
change orders during the 2002 hurricane season; and
WHEREAS, an official record of any such contracts, agreements,
purchase orders, and change orders will be presented to the Mayor and City
Commission for after-the-fact ratification.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND
CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the
Mayor and City Commission hereby authorize the City Manager to sign all
required contracts, agreements, purchase orders, and change orders that may
be required to make preparations before, and clean-up efforts after, storms
during the 2002 hurricane season, in the interests of the health, safety and
welfare of citizens and employees of the City of Miami Beach.

heavy equipment, and landscape services are the types of essential contracts which may be required.
It is requested that the City Manager be authorized to proceed, if needed, with the award ofthose essential
contracts, purchase orders, and change orders, with an official record of such awards to be presented to
the City Commission after-the-fact for ratification.
The Administration recommends approving the Resolution.

CONCLUSION
It is recommended that the Mayor and City Commission approve this request to ensure that
