RESOLUTION NO. 2002-24951 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR A."ID CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLOi)JDA SepPORTING THE EFFORTS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO OBTAIN ADEQUATE FUNDiNG FOR BOTH ITS OPERATIONAL AND ITS CAPITAL OUTLAY REQUIREMENTS IN ORDER TO PREPARE STUDENTS FOR GRADUATION, POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION, ANDIOR MEANINGFUL EMPLOYMENT, WHEREAS, it is in the interest of the City of Miami Beach to enjoy a robust economy; and WHEREAS, the economic well-being of our City depends on an educated, well-trained workforce; and WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County Public Schools is committed to preparing students for gradllation, post-secondary education or immediate meaningful employment so thaUts students become responsible citizens; and WHEREAS, in order to fulfill its mission, Miami-Dade County Public Schools must rely upon funding throughout the Florida Education Finance Program, whose allocations are determined by the Florida Legislature; and WHEREAS, the aforementioned allocations have not fully met the needs of a school district whose enrollment in kindergarten through twelfth grade has skyrocketed by more than 64,000 students over the past 10 years; and WHEREAS, that )lumber of students is greater than the total kindergarten through twelfth grade membership of 59 of Florida's 67 school districts. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the City of Miami Beach hereby pledges its full support to the efforts of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools to obtain adequate funding for both its operational and its capital outlay requirements in order for it to succeed in its mission to prepare students for graduation, post-secondary education, and/or meaningful employment.
