2002-24959 Reso APPROVED AS TO FORM & LANGUAGI & FOR EXEcUTION ~1'20101, -- RESOLUTION NO. 2002-24959 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, SETTING A PUBLIC HEARING FOR SEPTEMBER 25, 2002, ON THE PROPOSED USES OF THE LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT FUNDS. WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach has been awarded grant funds from the United States Department of Justice under the "Local Law Enforcement Block Grant" Program for program year 2003; and WHEREAS, the total estimated funds for this Program are 351,722, of which $316,550 will be funded by the United States Department of Justice, and the remaining $35,172 will be funded by the City; and WHEREAS, the grant funds will be used to fund special overtime projects, traditional law enforcement equipment and un-met technology needs; and WHEREAS, this is the seventh year of funding under the Law Enforcement Block Grant Program. The Miami-Dade Criminal Justice Council, the designated Advisory Board for the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program, endorsed the proposed use of these funds; and WHEREAS, one of the requirements of the Grant is that the City hold a public hearing for the purpose of providing an opportunity for members of the public to discuss and/or comment upon the proposed uses of the funds. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission herein set a public hearing to be held on September 25, 2002, in the Commission Chambers, third floor, 1700 Convention ent r Drive, Miami Beach, Florida. ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION Adopt the resolution. ANAL YSIS The City of Miami Beach was awarded grant funds from the United States Department of Justice under the "Local Law Enforcement Block Grant" Program for program year 2003. The total estimated funds for this project are $351,722, of which $316,550 will be funded by the United States Department of Justice and the City will fund the remaining $35,172. The Mayor and City Commission approved the application and proposed uses of the block grant funds at its regular meeting of July 31, 2002 under Resolution No. 2002-24928. The grant funds will be used to fund special overtime projects, traditional law enforcement equipment and un-met technology needs. One of the requirements of the Grant is that a Public Hearing be held for the purpose of providing an opportunity for members of the public to discuss and/or comment upon the proposed uses of the funds. The Public Hearing will be held on September 25, 2002. This is the seventh year of funding under the Law Enforcement Block Grant Program. The Miami-Dade Criminal Justice Council, the designated Advisory Board for the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program, endorsed the proposed use of these funds. It is recommended that the Mayor and City Commission adopt this Resolution and authorize a public hearing to be held on September 25, 2002, in the Commission Chambers, third floor, 1700 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, Florida.
