RESOLUTION NO 2002-24979
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER OR
HIS DESIGNEE TO SUBMIT A GRANT
APPLICATION TO MIAMI-DADE COUNTY,
TOURIST DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL IN THE
AMOUNT OF $25,000 FOR THE CITY'S ANNUAL
THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE; WHILE
LEVERAGING PREVIOUSLY APPROPRIATED
CITY FUNDS AS NEEDED; FURTHER
APPROPRIATING THE GRANTS IF APPROVED
AND ACCEPTED BY THE CITY AND
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO
EXECUTE ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS
RELATED TO THESE APPLICATIONS.
Whereas, the Tourist Development Council funds significant cultural
and/or special event, including sports activities and television/film origination
projects that promote tourism in Miami -Dade County; and,
Whereas, The Miami Beach Thanksgiving Day Parade will take
place on Thursday, November 6,2002, along Ocean Drive on South Beach and
the event will be taped and aired as a significant portion of the nationally telecast
"CBS All-American Thanksgiving Day Parade"; and,
Whereas, the 2002 nationally televised CBS All-American Thanksgiving Day
Parade will take place in its traditional home of New York City and this year, the
City of Miami Beach is proud to be the sole designated partner; and,
Whereas, The City proposes to request funds in the amount of $25,000 to
partially defray the costs of this event; and,
Whereas, the deadline for this grant is October 9,2002; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED THAT THE MAYOR AND
CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH hereby authorize the City
Manager or his designee to submit an application for grant funds to Miami-Dade
County, Tourist Development Council for the City's Thanksgiving Day Parade;
while leveraging previously appropriated City funds as needed; further
appropriating the grants if approved and accepted by the City, and authorizing
the Mayor And City Clerk to execute all necessary documents related to these
applications.

Provides Funds For Significant Cultural And/Or Special Events, Including Sports Activities And
TelevisionlFilm Origination Projects That Promote Tourism In Miami-Dade County.
The Administration Proposes Submitting A Grant To The TDC For The Miami Beach Thanksgiving Day
Parade. The Parade Will Take Place On Wednesday, November 6, 2002, Along Ocean Drive On South
Beach And Will Be Taped And Aired As A Significant Portion Of The Nationally Telecast "CBS AII-
American Thanksgiving Day Parade". The Grant Requires Matching Funds. Matching Funds In The
Amount Of $25,000 Are Available In The Tourism And Special Events Account For This Grant.
The Deadline For This Grant Is October 9, 2002.

ANALYSIS
1. Approval to submit a Qrant application in the amount of $25.000 to Miami-Dade
County, Tourist Development Council for FY 2002/3.
The Tourist Development Council funds significant cultural and/or special event, including
sports activities and television/film origination projects that promote tourism in Miami -
Dade County.
The Miami Beach Thanksgiving Day Parade will take place on Wednesday, November 6,
2002, along Ocean Drive on South Beach. The event will be taped and aired as a
significant portion of the nationally telecast "CBS All-American Thanksgiving Day Parade"
on Thursday November 28. The telecast is scheduled as a Full Network 3-hour TV Special
that includes coverage of the traditional world famous Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
and the CBS NFL update.
The 2002 nationally televised CBS All-American Thanksgiving Day Parade will take place
in its traditional home of New York City and this year, the City of Miami Beach is proud to
be the sole designated partner. The Miami Beach parade will include dramatic floats with
various themes reflecting the many colors that make up Miami Beach and the Miami-Dade
metropolitan area. The floats will be complemented by performing groups and bands.

In conclusion, the Administration recommends approval of this Resolution authorizing the
City Manager or his designee to submit an application for grant funds to Miami-Dade
County, Tourist Development Council for the City's Thanksgiving Day Parade; while
leveraging previously appropriated City funds as needed; further appropriating the grants if
approved and accepted by the City, and authorizing the Mayor And City Clerk to execute all
necessary documents related to these applications.
