UPDATE ON THE MARINE PATROL BOAT FOR THE NORTH DIS'rRICT
Date: August 12, 2002
This Letter to Commission is to update the Mayor and Commission on the status of the
Marine Patrol boat assigned to the North District.
The North End Sub-Station (N.E.S.S.) located at 6840 Indian Creek Drive now has an
eighteen-foot Boston Whaler open-fisherman type boat docked behind it for use in the
North District. The boat will be used in directed patrol of the waterways in close
coordination with crime analysis in the area.
The boat is manned by North District police officers who have successfully completed the
Florida Boating Course and passed a swimming proficiency test. Trained personnel are
readily available and on-duty at all times, however, assigning personnel to patrol the
waterways with the boat is governed by shift minimum staffing limitations. Therefore, to
ensure the boat is actively patrolling and highly visible on the weekends, an overtime detail
has been added to supplement staffing.
