The purpose of this LTC is to advise you that James Quinlan has resigned as the Director
of the Office of Arts, Culture and Entertainment (ACE) effective September 20, 2002.
James has contributed to the City of Miami Beach, overseeing the Film and Print, Special
Events and Art in Public Places Divisions within ACE over the past six years. James was a
key player in developing the City's Arts, Film and Print, and Special Events initiatives. His
contribution to our City's successes in these areas are greatly appreciated. I am sure you
will join me in wishing James the best of luck in his future endeavors.
I have appointed Major Tom Weschler from our Police Department to serve as the Interim
Director of,ACE until a permanent replacement is found. Tom will work with James and the
,ACE staff to ensure a smooth transition that will continue to focus on ACE's goals and
objectives.
Tom Weschler has served as the Police Major over the Special Services Division since
October 2001. This Unit will now be handled by the Police Major of Support Services
during this transition period. Major Wechsler has a long history with the City of Miami
Beach and among other things has participated in the Major Events Planning (MEP)
process, the Nightlife Industry Task Force with responsibility over the Police Off-Duty
Office, has been involved with Art Miami over the past eight years, and most recently
attended Art Basel as part of his oversight responsibility with this important event which
debuts in Miami Beach this December.
