A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, WAIVING, BY 5/7THS VOTE, THE FORMAL BID
PROCESS, FINDING SUCH WAIVER TO BE IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE
CITY, AND AUTHORIZING THE ADMINISTRATION TO ISSUE A STANDING
ORDER TO NEXTEL COMMUNICATIONS, PURSUANT TO STATE OF
FLORIDA CONTRACT #725-330-98-1, IN THE AMOUNT OF $120,000.00, FOR
FY2002-2003, FOR PROVISION OF CITY-WIDE WIRELESS SERVICES.

WHEREAS, the standing order for Nextel Communications to provide City-wide
wireless services expires on September 30, 2002; and
WHEREAS, Nextel Communications provides services to the City under State
Contract #725-330-98-1; and
WHEREAS, Nextel Communications is providing a reduced rate under the State
Contract for wireless services.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission waive, by 5/7ths vote, the formal bid process, finding such waiver to be in
the best interest of the City, and authorize the Administration to issue a standing order
for Nextel Communications, pursuant to State of Florida Contract # 25-330-98-1, in the
amount of $120,000.00, for FY2002-2003, for provision of City-wid irel s services.

Item Summary/Recommendation:
Currently, Nextel Communications provides city-wide radio and cellular telephone services under State of
Florida Contract #725-330-98-1. The City is thereby able to take advantage of substantial pricing benefits.
The Administration recommends approval of the following Standing Order for Nextel Communications.

Funding is available from the Internal Service Fund for Information
Technology (Budget Account 550.1750.000316, FY2002-2003).
ANALYSIS
The City utilizes Nextel Communications for city-wide radio and cellular telephone services
as they are the only provider of such combined services. The City continues to use them
under State of Florida Contract, #725-330-98-1 and is therefore able to take advantage of
State pricing and services.
CONCLUSION
The Administration recommends the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami
Beach, Florida, waive, by 5/7ths vote, the formal bid process, finding such waiver to be
in the best interest of the City, and to authorize the Administration to issue a Standing
Order for Nextel Communications, in the amount of $120,000.00, for FY2002-2003, for city-
wide radio and cellular telephone services.
