A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING
THE MAYOR, EACH CITY COMMISSIONER, AND THE CHIEF
OF POLICE TO TRAVEL TO WASHINGTON D.C. TO MEET
WITH FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS AND DEMAND FINANCIAL
AID, FEDERAL RELOCATION AND PROTECTION FOR AND FROM
PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
WHEREAS, dramatic increases in crime have occurred in the
City of Miami Beach over the past two years, and particularly violent
crime, and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Miami Beach have expressed
virtual unanimous fear that the streets of Miami Beach are neither
safe nor secure, and
WHEREAS, business and industry, and particularly the tourist
industry which is vital to the economic welfare of the City of Miami
Beach, have suffered enormous financial losses as a result of this
crime rate, and
WHEREAS, the Police Department of the City of Miami Beach
has presented evidence that much of the crime rate increase is
directly attributable to the influx of illegal aliens into this
j country via the shores of Dade County and Miami Beach, and
WHEREAS, the influx of refugees, particularly Cuban
(Mariel) and Hatian refugees was thrust upon the City of Miami Beach
due to the negligence or intentional disregard for the enforcement
of Federal Immigration Laws and Treaties by the Government of the

United States of America
WHEREAS, these illegal aliens have neither been able to
obtain housing or employment, thereby causing many to resort to
crime,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that:
[. 1. The Mayor of the City of Miami Beach,
accompanied by all six City Commissioners
and the Chief of Police, travel to the
nation' s capital in Washington D.C. and
meet with Florida Senators Chiles and
Hawkins, Florida Congressmen Lehman,
Fascell, and Pepper, the Director of INS,
Norman Braman, and all other appropriate
Federal authorities, to express this City' s
anger and frustration at the lack of Federal
aid in the foregoing matters, and further that
2 . The Mayor of the City of Miami Beach, and
the City Commission demand that the Federal
Government provide immediate financial assis-
tance to combat crime resulting from the
influx of illegal aliens to Miami Beach, and
further that
3 . The Mayor of the City of Miami Beach, and
the City Commission demand that the Federal
Government immediately relocate any and all
illegal refugees as well as refugees unable
to obtain housing and employment, and further
that
4. The Mayor of the City of Miami Beach, and
the City Commission demand immediate, strict
and coastal protection from illegal immigration;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that a blue ribbon panel of commun-
ity volunteers is hereby established as the MIAMI BEACH REFUGEE
TASK FORCE, and that all volunteers are hereby invited to
accompany the CITY COMMISSION to WASHINGTON D.C. at their own
expense to further the ends of this resolution. The City Manager
is hereby instructed to immediately schedule meetings with the
above named officials for meetings within the next month, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that expenditures of funds are
hereby authorized from appropriate City Accounts for the purposes
hereinstated.
