Exhibit 1/ Project Description
{Note: The following Project description is revised to represent the possible Grant reduction,
as a result of the potential City resort tax shortfall.]
Organization: EDGE Theatre
Project title: Free Plavs on Miami Beach
Completely describe Project approved by the Grants panel and in a separate narrative detail the revisions to
the project based upon the award. Please be as specific as possible; name of event, venue, times, etc. Also,
detail the organization's participation in Arts Beach Second Thursdays. Miami Beach Anchors should list
specifics about their mentoring problem.
EDGE Theatre proposed to present free plays in Miami Beach, plus produce some plays with
paid admissions. The free venue was changed from Lincoln Road to Espanola Way, a
land marked street with a weekly street fair. Because Espanola Way was under construction
for a large part of the year (and still is), other venues were added. Despite these obstacles, in
total, 39 evenings of theater were presented, more than the 34 planned for. Twenty-seven of
these were on the Beach, and twelve in the Miami Design District just across the Julia Tuttle
Causeway. This nearby venue serves the Beach, and many patrons came from the Espanola
Way Senior Citizens Center - with some of these admitted free and the rest allowed to pay
only $5.
EDGE Theatre had to rent trucks daily for its free readings on Espanola Way, and bring in
and assemble and cle-assemble the stage daily, as well as moving and storing its props,
costumes, sound system, etc. daily. We were glad to do it, and the audiences certainly
appreciated the effort.
Eighteen of these evenings were free. Fifteen evenings charged only $10, and six evenings,
at The Little Stage, where costs are high, charged $201$15.
EDGE presented events on bID 2nd Thursday nights, and also took part in the Invitation to
the Arts at the Jackie Gleason Theatre in September, though that was not on a 2nd Thursday.
