Since 1995, NBDC has assisted the North Beach community in prioritizing projects to be implemented. Participation from all parts ofthe community is encouraged; public meetings are advertised and held to develop the project ''wish list". Public meetings were held on February 6 and 27, 2002, to reach community agreement on how best to expend the funds of Fiscal Year (6) 2000/2001 Quality of Life/Resort Tax funds available for the North Beach community, During this process NBDC committed funding $55,777.00 of Quality of Life funds from Fiscal Year (7) 2001/2002 to complete the North Shore Tennis Center project. The scope of the project generally comprises the construction of the ball fields, tennis center, 12 tennis courts, a practice court, and a maintenance building. A new gymnasium, youth center and entry plaza are also part of the project. The construction close-out is estimated for the summer of 2003. At this time, the cost of construction of ten (10) of the twelve (12) tennis courts is funded. The appropriation by the Mayor and City Commission of the $55,777 in Quality of Life funds will allow the addition of the two (2) unfunded tennis courts in the Project.
