TO: Mayor Dan Gelber and
Members of the City Commission

SUBJECT: TESLA SUPER CHARGER STATION - U ° DATE
This Letter to Commission (LTC) serves to provide an update regarding the deployment of
Tesla Super Charger Stations.
LETTER TO COMMISSION
On October 18, 2017, the Mayor and Commission approved Resolution No. 2017-30048,
authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute an agreement with Tesla Motors, Inc. to
install, operate, and maintain Super Charger Stations at certain municipal parking facilities at
the sole expense of Tesla.
Tesla and FPL (Florida Power and Light) have surveyed several municipal parking facilities
and identified the Pennsylvania Avenue Garage as the preferred parking facility to initiate the
installation of Super Charger Stations. These stations are able to provide a full charge in 38
minutes. This, coupled with the Pennsylvania Avenue Garage's close proximity to Lincoln
Road and related short term parking sessions generated by retail and food/beverage are
very compatible uses.
Supercharger stations require a transformer with sufficient capacity to power a retail store
the size of Target or Walmart. During Tesla and FPL's due diligence process for the
Pennsylvania Avenue Garage, a location within the footprint of the garage was been
identified for the placement of the transformer. However, because it would reside along the
exterior of the garage, a DRB (Design Review Board) application and approval is required.
The DRB application is in process for the meeting on June 5, 2018. Assuming the
application is approved, Tesla anticipates to commence construction between July and
August which will take approximately six (6) weeks. The estimated completion date is
projected to be between late August and early September. Additional updates will follow as
the project progresses.
