RESOLUTION NO. 4772
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, REQUESTING THE WAR
DEPARTMENT OF THE UNITED STATES
TO REGULATE THE OPERATION OF THE
EAST DRAW BRIDGE OF THE COUNTY
CAUSEWAY
WHEREAS, an exhaustive traffic survey extending from February
22nd, 1936 to March 18, 1936, inclusive, between the hours of 7:00 A.M.,
and 1:00 A.M. , the following day, indicated that more than forty
thousand motor vehicles traveled on said County Causeway each day, and
said east draw bridge was opened in excess of forty times each day, and
more than six thousand motor vehicles were delayed each day, and
WHEREAS, since 1936 this area has experienced tremendous
growth with a corresponding increase in vehicular traffic, and
WHEREAS, said openings of the draw bridge have resulted in
long, confusing and hazardous delays to vehicular traffic, and have
interfered with the proper functioning of the Police, Fire and other
municipal departments,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA
That the War Department of the United States be requested
to regulate the operation of the east draw bridge of the County Causeway
by closing it to water traffic during the vehicular traffic peak hours
for a °art of the winter months.
