Resolution 5232 RESOLUTION NO. 5232
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of this Council
that efforts are being made to introduce a proposed consti-
tutional amendment which would provide for the levying of
a State income tax, and
WHEREAS, many thousands of people have removed from
other cities to Florida on account of the absence of state
income tax, and the immense growth in population and wealth
of the State has resulted directly from the migration of
such persons to this btate, and
WHEREAS, there are already being assessed and collected
a great sum of money from intangible and personal property
taxes as well as from Estate taxes, and
WHEREAS, the imposition of a State income tax would
defeat the very purpose of removal to this State of great
wealth, would discourage others from coming to the State of
Florida and would encourage many to move elsewhere, and
WHEREAS, the enactment of such a bill would be ruinous
to Dade County and consequently ruinous to the State of
Florida,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ?MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the constitutional
Amendment Committee of the House of Representatives of the
State of 1'lorida be and it is hereby urged to defeat any and
all attempts to submit to the Legislature of the State of
Florida, any and all proposals which would lead to the imposi-
tion of an income tax in this State .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution
be forwarded to the Chairman of said Constitutional Amend-
ment Committee and all of the members of the 1941 State
Legislature from Dade County.
