Cuba, 1961, Came to Miami. Born 1941. Stayed a month, went to NYC. Started working
restaurant in Beach as kitchen helper; refused to give me lunch. Started peeling eggs, ate
too many, Miami not for me.
Preservation 1975/NYC.
SoBeach/Semi-retired. Key Biscayne/bought Nixon's house. Conference on beach,
architecture caught eye,
Bought cheap. Bought at $22 a square foot. Clevelander, Waldorf, Waldorf, Edison,
Breakwater. Now about $600.
Cost lot more to fix up; other guys not fixing. Pioneers go through hell. Did not lose; sold
them. In case of few of them, when sold, I gave them mortgages., they went into
bankruptcy. In the end got money, not money should have made.
They paid me the mortgages. I was interested in NYC.
Kiss and run.
A little disappointed in sense not nostalgic; not return to past, bit tacky. Taken liberties.
1986 Sanchez arrives Miami Beach.
1987 Sanchez tries to save Biscaya.
1987 Sanchez, partners buy Amsterdam Palace, went into bankruptcy.
1987 Apt at 1035 Collins foreclosed; Breakwater foreclosed.
1987 Sanchez buys Whitehart for$693,000., under demolition order since 1985.
1988 Sells Edison for 3.3 million
1988 Sanchez files for protection on buildings on Espanola Way.
1989 Sells Waldorf Towers(806 Ocean)for 1.35 million(90.84 sq ft);bought in 85 for
$430,000.
1989 Sanchez loses Whitehart Hotel (315 Ocean), last year lost Cameo (1434
Washington)Bought Whitehart in 86 for 693,000. Hotel auctioned off
