Resolution 5436 RESOLUTION 140. 5436
A RESOLUTION FAVORING THE
PURCHASE OF DEFENSE BONDS
BY ALL CITY EMPLOYEES.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EIAhI BEACH,
FLORIDA, that
TIHEREAS, world-menacing and greed-crazed Japan, Germany and Italy
and their Fascist-saluting parasites have declared war on the United
States, deliberately defied the American people by treachery and deceit
and contemptuously repudiated the principles upon which our nation was
found'-`and built; and
MEREAS, the United States expects every loyal citizen to do his or
her duty to defeat the Axis powers—whether he or she be in the front
lines manning the guns of the army, navy and air force or in the civilian
lines plowing fields, turning wheels of industry, guarding our cities and
homes or purchasing defense bonds to buy bullets; and
MREA,S, the purchase of defense bonds by civilians is a small
contribution to the defense of our country as compared with the thousands
of lives being given by our soldiers and sailors to repel invasion; and
-1ZEREAS, no personal sacrifice is too great when the survival of our
great nation is at stake; and
MER.EAS, defense bonds must be bought to drive back those who would
take away our liberty, disrupt our pursuit of happiness or destroy us;
THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of
uiami Beach that every city employee is expected to do his or her duty
to buy as many defense bonds as he or she can afford.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that upon request of said employees, the city
paymaster be authorized to retain part of their salaries to be set aside
for the purchase of defense bonds; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the city tax collector be authorized to
purchase defense bonds for city employees with the said voluntary salary
deductions accumulated for that purpose.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 18th day of December D., 1941.
