Resolution 5620 r RESOLUTION NO. 5620 WIREAS, the Causeway connecting 79th Street in Miami with Normandy Isle in Miami Beach was orginally designated "Everglades Avenue Causeway" , but has long since been known as "Seventy—Ninth Street Causeway" , and WHEREAS, this more commonly used designation, while locating this Causeway in the City of Miami, tends to confuse its location in the City of Miami Beach by reason of the fact that it connects with Seventy—first Street on the mainland of MiaiLi Beach, after cross- ing Normandy Isle, and WHEREAS, an Association of Miami Beach property owners, owning properties in the north end of Miami Beach have petitioned the City Council, calling attention to the confusion of strangers looking for the Seventy—Ninth Street Causeway on Seventy—Ninth Street in Miami Beach, and urging that said Causeway be re—named with some more appropriate or more properly descriptive title to avoid this confusion at Miami Beach, and WHEREAS, this matter has been called to the attention of the members of the Board of the Florida State Road Department and also has been called to the attention of the Board of County Commissioners for Dade County, with the suggestion to each of said Bodies that the name "North Bay Causeway" be adopted as the new official name for said Causeway, and WHEREAS, both the said State Road Commissioners and the said County Commissioners have signified their willingness to concur in the adoption of this or any other suitable name, provided the said change is acceptable to the Commissioners of the City of Miami, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, that while we do not wish to presume to arbitrarily select a new name we do hereby request and petition the Honorable Commissioners of the City of Miami to take some offi— cial action concurring in the suggested name of "North Bay Causeway" for the presently designated Seventy—Ninth Street Causeway or that said Body rename said Causeway by selecting a name more suitable to them.
