Resolution 5650 RESOLUTION NO. 5650
WHEREAS, a certain bill has been introduced by Representative
Walker of Volusia County, at the current session of the Florida
State Legislature, said bill being known as House Bill No. 39 and
entitled:
AN ACT CLASSIFYING CITIES AND TOWNS ACCORDING
TO POPULATION AND ESTABLISHING A UNIFORM SYSTEM
OF MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT AS REQUIRED BY SECTION
24, ARTICLE 111 OF THE CONSTITUTION OF THE STATE
OF FLORIDA; PROVIDING FOR THEIR INCORPORATION,
ORGANIZATION, GOVERNMENT, JURISDICTION, POWERS,
DUTIES, AND PRIVILEGES; DEFINING CERTAIN TERMS;
PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS
ACT• REPEALING CERTAIN LAWS RELATING TO MUNICI—
PALITIES AND REPEALING ALL LAWS OR PARTS OF
LAWS IN CONFLICT WITH THIS ACT. ,
and
WHEREAS, this Body, after due deliberation is convinced that
the passage of this bill would be decidedly detrimental to the
best interests of the citizens of our City inasmuch as our present
charter and form of government has` been largely responsible for
our very healthy and phemominal growth of the past two decades and
we see no reason for changing same.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that we do hereby petition and re—
quest our Representatives and our Senator from this County to use
their every effort to prevent the passage of this bill or any bill
which would in like manner take away our present charter and form
of government, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be and Is is in—
structed to immediately forward copies of this resolution to the
Honorable Representatives Marshall C. Wiseheart, C. W. Peters and
R. B. Gautier, Jr. , and to the Honorable Senator Ernest Graham.
