A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND
ACKNOWLEDGING THE MERITORIOUS
AND EFFICIENT SERVICES RENDERED
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH BY
MRS. CLARA BENNETT.
WHEREAS, on a sunny day in May, some twenty years ago,
a certain very charming young lady by the name of Clara Preston presented
herself at the City Hall seeking employment with the City of Miami Beach
in any capacity in which she might best serve, and
WHEREAS, it was the good fortune of our City Clerk,
C. W. Tomlinson, to secure the services of this capable young miss as
his secretary and assistant, and
WHEREAS, throughout the many continuous years since
her employment this same charming lady, whose name is now Mrs. Clara
Bennett, has seen Miami Beach grow from a small village to a thriving
city and has in her secretarial capacity grown and developed with our city,
absorbing from year to year more and more of the myriad details of munici—
pal affairs, thus making herself of inestimable value, not only to her
immediate employer but to the various city councilmen and officials with
whom she has constantly come in contact, and
WHEREAS, her continuous term of service with the city
since the year nineteen hundred twenty three has only been broken for a
period of some four years in the late twenties and early thirties while
she was busy making a home for her husband and raising her two lovely
daughters, and
WHEREAS, the members of this body have not only enjoyed
working with Mrs. Bennett throughout these years but also are desirous
of recognizing and acknowledging her very efficient and genial services,
for we have noted on innumerable occasions her ability to make and hold
friends for the city administration by the gracious and pleasing manner
with which she has handled the many problems of citizens that constantly
have come her way for solution, and
WHEREAS, our friend Clara has now decided, after considerable
pressure on the part of her good and patient husband, that the time has come
for her to retire from city- work and devote herself to her family and her
home,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Miami Beach, Florida, that we do hereby go on record unanimously
as recogni,ing the fact that in Mrs. Bennett's retirement from service we
are losing one of our most valued employees and we shall not only miss her
services but her smile and friendly presence at our council table, and
We also, by this our resolution, wish her every success and
happiness and a sincere Godspeed for her future.
Passed and unanimously adopted on this the 3rd day of
November, A. D., 1943.
