Resolution 5713 RESOLUTION NO. F713
WHEREAS, the cruel persecution and -ruthless extermination
of the Jewish people in occupied Europe by Nazi Germany have
outraged the conscience of the civilized world, and have made
it manifest to men of good will everywhere that the safety and
well-being of the remnants of Israel in the hate-infested
atmosphere of a defeated Europe lie in the maintenance and
further development of a Jewish Homeland in Palestine; and
WHEREAS, on April 27, 1943 , the General Assembly of the
State of Florida passed a concurrent resolution, approved by
the Governor, calling for the establishment of a Jewish Nation-
al Home in Palestine as an act of justice for the stricken
Jewish masses in accordance with the principals of self-
determination; and
WHEREAS, there is pending a resolution in the Congress of
the United States that the doors of Palestine be opened for
the free entry of Jews so that the Jewish people may ultimately
reconstitute Palestine as a free and democratic Jewish Common-
wealth;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Miami Beach, Florida, that it hereby expresses
(a) its profound sympathy toward the helpless victims
of Nazi religious persecution and racial hatred;
(b) its approval for the establishment of a Jewish Common-
wealth in Palestine;
( c) its earnest hope that the Congress of the United States
pass the said resolution introduced jointly by Congressman Ranuff
Compton and James A. Wright in the House of Representatives;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
forwarded to the President of the United States, the Secretary
of State, the Senators and Representatives of Florida and the
British Ambassador in Washington, D. C.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 9th day of February, A. D. 1944.
