A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA, FINDING AS TO THE NUMBER OF FREEHOLDERS
LEGALLY QUALIFIED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SPECIAL ELEC-
TION HELD APRIL 24th, 1945, AND CANVASSING THE RETURNS
OF THE SAID SPECIAL ELECTION AND DECLARING THE RESULT
TO BE FOR THE ISSUANCE OF BONDS IN THE TOTAL SUM OF
$2,450,000.00 FOR THE PURPOSES IN THIS RESOLUTION STAT-
ED, AND TO BE AGAINST THE PURCHASE OF GAS WORKS AND TO
BE AGAINST THE LEVY OF A MAXIMUM OF TWO (2) MILLS FOR
PUBLICITY AND ADVERTISING PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the City Clerk and Supervisor of Registration of the City
of Miami Beach, Florida, has certified that the total number of free-
holders who were qualified electors residing in said City, and legally
qualified to participate in the Special Election held in said City on
April 24th, 1945, was 3722, and
WHEREAS, this City Council has made a canvass of the returns of
the certificates of the Inspectors and Clerks who held and conducted
said Special Election held on April 24th, 1945, such canvass having been
made soley, exclusively and entirely from such returns,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Miami Beach, Florida, that we do hereby find and declare that the total
number of the freeholders who were qualified electors residing in said
City and legally qualified to participate in the Special Election held
in said City on April 24th, 1945, was 3722, and that 1926 of said free-
holders qualified as aforesaid entered the polling places and signed
the signature certificates as a prerequisite for voting, as required
by law and actually entered the booths of the voting machines and
participated in the election, as shown and evidenced by the public
counters on the voting machines used in said election, and that fifteen
(15) of said freeholders qualified as aforesaid, cast their absentee
ballots, pursuant to law and participated in the election, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we do hereby find and declare that the
total number of votes cast in said election in favor of the approval of
the bonds and the other questions submitted and the total number of votes
cast in said election against the approval of the bonds and the other
questions submitted were as follows:
Upon the question: 1. "Shall the City of Miami Beach, Florida,
issue negotiable coupon bonds in the amount of
Five Hundred Thousand ($500,000.00) Dollars,
with interest at a rate hereafter to be
determined, not exceeding 3% per annum, for
the purpose of constructing an auditorium
in the City of Miami Beach?" 1820 votes were
cast, of which 1229 votes were "For Bonds"
and 591 votes were "Against Bonds".
Upon the question: 2. "Shall the City of Miami Beach, Florida,
issue negotiable coupon bond in the amount of
Six Hundred Fifty Thousand ($650,000.00)
Dollars, with interest at a rate hereafter to
be determined, not exceeding 3%, per annum,
for the purpose of constructing a hospital in
the City of Miami Beach?" 1803 votes were
cast of which 1196 votes were "For Bonds"
and 607 votes were "Against Bonds".
Upon the question: 3. "Shall the City of Miami Beach, Florida,
issue negotiable coupon bonds in the amount
of One Million ($1,000,000.00) Dollars, with
interest at a rate hereafter to he determined,
not exceeding 3%, per annum, for the purpose
of acquiring and improving, for park purposes,
Lot "A" and Lots 1, 2, 3, and 5, together
with the outlets west of Collins Avenue and
east of Indian Creek lying opposite said
tracts and together with all riparian rights;
all in the INDIAN BEACH CORPORATION'S SUBDIVI-
SION, according to amended plat thereof,
recorded in Plat Book 8, at Page 61, of the
public records of Dade County, Florida,
commonly known as "The Firestone Estate" and
"The Warner Property?" 1790 votes were cast,
of which 1028 votes were "For Bonds" and
762 votes were "Against Bonds".
Upon the question: 4; "Shall the City of Miami Beach, Florida,
issue negotiable coupon bonds in the ount
of Three Hundred Thousand (4300 ,000.00
Dollars, with interest at a rate hereafter to
be determined, not exceeding 3%, per annum,
for the purpose of acquiring areas for the .
purpose of off-street parking of automobiles?"
1769 votes were cast, of which 113 votes were
"For Bonds" and 585 votes were "Against Bonds".
Upon the question: 5. "Shall the City of Miami Beach, Florida,
purchase for Two Million Six Hundred Fifty
Thousand (42,650,000.00) Dollars, the gas
works and transmission and distribution systems
as now owned and operated by Peoples Water and
Gas Company and supplying gas in and surround-
ing said City, including other municipalities
and adjacent unincorporated territory within
Dade and Broward Counties, such purchase to be
accomplished through the issuance of Gas
Revenue Certificates which will be payable
solely from revenues from said plant and
systems without any pledge of the City's credit
or taxing power?" 1757 votes were cast, of
which 534 votes were "For Purchase" and 1223
votes were "Against Purchase. "
Upon the question: 6. "Shall the City Council of the City of
Miami Beach, Florida, have the authority, for
each of the years 195 and 1946, to levy, for
publicity and advertising purposes, a maximum
of Two (2) Mills on the dollar of the taxable
cash value of all !property in said City, both
real and personal?" 1717 votes were cast, of
which 853 votes were "For Levy" and $64 votes
were "Against Levy. "

WHEREAS, a majority of the total number of freeholders who were
qualified electors residing in said City, and legally qualified to
participate in said Special Election, divote therein, and
WHEREAS, a majority of the votes cast were in favor of the approval
of the bonds,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we do hereby declare
that the issuance of said bonds in the aggregate sum of $2,450,000.00
has been duly and legally approved by the voters, as provided by law,

and that we do hereby declare that the proposal to purchase the
gas works and the levy of a maximum of Two (2) mills for publicity
and advertising purposes were not approved by the voters.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 25th day of April, A. D. 1945.
