WILLIAM J. BROWN DIES IN ILLINOIS
Miami Pioneer Built First Hotel at Beach
William J. Brown 53, pioneer Miamian and builder of the first hotel at Miami
• Beach, died yesterday at Edward Hines Jr. Hospital, Hines, Ill. , relatives
here were informed.,
Mr. Brown, a native of Glasgow, came to Miami 28 years ago. He enlisted in
the U.S. naval reserves and was stationed at Key West.. He entered the veterans
hospital at Hines about eight months ago.
He was a Mason, Shriner, an Elk, member of theKnights Templar and of the
Presbyterian church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs . Max King, Miami, and a
son, W.J. Brown, Jr. of New York.
Funeral services will be held in Hines.
