SUBJECT: 10th Annual Florida League of Citi -I Florida Municipal Achievement Awards Program
The Florida League of Cities has announced that the City of Miami Beach was selected as the
winner in the Florida Citizenship Award category in their 10th Annual Florida Municipal
Achievement Awards program. Begun in 2009, the goal of the Florida Municipal Achievement
Awards program is to provide municipalities the opportunity to receive deserved recognition for
creating standout programs to better serve their communities.
This year, the superior and innovative efforts set forth by a handful of nominees were separated
and awarded based on the three traditional, distinct categories:
• City Spirit Award,
• Florida Citizenship Award, and
• Environmental Stewardship Award.
The Florida Citizenship Award in particular focuses on city projects or programs that build stronger,
more participative residents. The award also emphasizes on developments that increase civic
awareness and promotes active input in city government. The City of Miami Beach's winning entry,
MB Resident Connect, is an electronic system that allows residents and others to set up keywords
of interest and receive alerts when their topic is published on an agenda.
Founded in 1922, the Florida League of Cities is the united voice for Florida's municipal
governments. Its goals are to promote local self-government and serve the needs of Florida's
cities. Representatives from the Florida League of Cities will be at the June 27, 2018 Awards and
Presentations Meeting to present us with the award.
Please join me in recognizing the IT staff for their work.
