PROGRAM. ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION Subject: Adopt the Resolution. ANALYSIS The Fontainebleau Hilton Resort has generously agreed to donate $500 toward the City's Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) Program. The Fontainebleau Hilton Resort and the Muss family are long time residents of the City of Miami Beach and found this program to be noteworthy and of great value to Miami Beach residential community. The City of Miami Beach has become a part of a national network of C.E,R.T. communities and has developed a program that is designed to help neighborhoods prepare for and respond to catastrophic disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and other major emergencies, C.E.R.T. training is designed to help citizens prepare to help themselves, their families, and their neighbors in the event of a catastrophic event. CERT trained individuals will be able to help save lives and property until emergency services personnel arrive. The program trains volunteers in light Search and Rescue, Triage, Emergency Medical Procedures, Small Fire Suppression, and Damage Assessment. Created by the City of Los Angeles' Fire Department in 1985, the C.E.R.T. concept was so beneficial to the community that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has made the program available nationally, Miami-Dade County's Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has adapted the program to suit the particular needs of South Florida. The $500 donation from the Fontainebleau Hilton Resort will be used to fund supplies such as gloves, reflective vests and first aid kits for the volunteerC.E.R.T. teams. Neighborhood Services has organized its CERT Program to be a part of the larger County-wide C.E.R.T. while still being a stand-alone program based locally. The Administration recommends that the Mayor and City Commission adopt this resolution accepting the kind and generous donation 01$500 from the Fontainebleau Hilton Resort for the City's c.E.R.~gram. ~:~~~~~Ion MemosIMuss CERT Donation Memo, doc
