Resolution 6521 RESOLUTION NO. 6521.
WHEREAS, it has been determined by the City Council of the
City of Miami Beach, Florida, that available hospital facilities
in the City of Miami Beach are inadequate in number for the Proper
care and treatment of its citizens and its Sumner and "Tinter tou-
rists, and
WHEREAS, it is deemed to be desirable andproper in the in-
terest of the public health, safety and welfare of the community
that additional hospital facilities, rooms, beds and equipment be
obtained, maintained and operated, and
WHEREAS, the City Council has been advised and informed that
the United States Veterans Hospital (previously the Nautilus Hotel
Property, Miami Beach, Florida) is about to be offered for sale by
the United States Government, and that the City of Miami Beach has
a priority for acquisition of same, and
WHEREAS, it appears necessary and desirable to the City Coun-
cil that the United States Veterans Hospital (previously the Nautilus
Hotel Property, Miami Beach, Florida) be acquired by the City of
Miami Beach and that such property be used, maintained and operated
as a hospital, and
WHEREAS, the City Council has been informed and advised that
the proper procedure in the acquisition of such property from the
United States Government requires th€ filing of a letter of intent,
a formal application, and the designation of an individual as
"Hospital Commissioner" ,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF MIAT~I BEACH, FLORIDA, that Claude A. Renshaw, City Manager
of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, be and he is hereby designated
the "Hospital Commissioner of the City of Miami Beach, Florida";
that the City Manager, as such, or in his capacity as "Hospital
Commissioner" , as the procedure may require, be and he is hereby
authorized, empowered and directed to prepare, sign and file with
the proper authorities of the United States Government, such letters
and application forms, and take any and al?_ other procedural action
necessary and proper to secure the acquisition of the United States
Veterans Hospital (Previously the Nautilus Hotel Property, Miami
Beach, Florida) , for the City of Miami Beach, Florida.
