A RESOLUTION JOINING WITH OTHER MUNICIPALITIES
AND AGENCIES IN THE GREATER MIAMI AREA IN
REQUESTING THE STATE ROAD DEPARTMENT IN COOPERA-
TION WITH THE PUBLIC ROADS ADMINISTRATION TO
MAKE AN ORIGIN AND DESTINATION TRAFFIC SURVEY
AND INTERSTATE HIGHWAY PLAN FOR THE GREATER
MIAMI AREA.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is dependent to a great extent
upon motor vehicle transportation for delivery of foodstuffs and
other commodities and for the general transportation of its residents
and visitors, and
WHEREAS, the rapid increase of resident and visitor population
in the Greater Miami area has brought on a very serious traffic
congestion on many of the principal streets, and
WHEREAS, this problem has grown so acute that a comprehensive
plan is necessary to provide adequate and satisfactory relief, and
WHEREAS, before any such comprehensive plan can be made, an
origin and destination study for the principal street system of the
entire Metropolitan area must be made;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Miami Beach, Florida, that the City of Miami Beach join with other
municipalities and agencies in the Greater Miami area in requesting
the State Road Department in cooperation with the Public Roads
Administration to make a comprehensive origin and destination street
traffic survey and an interstate highway plan for the Greater Miami
area.
