Resolution 6622 RESOLUTION NO. 6622
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach became the fastest
growing municipality in the United States the last decade for
which a federal census was taken;
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is the eighth largest
municipality in Florida which is responsible for a major portion
of railroad passenger traffic handled by the Florida East Coast
Railway and Seaboard Air Line Railroad companies not only during
the winter season but also throughout the year;
WHEREAS, Miami Beach has more than one-fourth of all the
hotel rooms in the entire state of Florida in its 339 hotels,
200 of which were constructed during the six years before the
last world war;
WHEREAS, Miami Beach' s construction of hotels, apartments
and homes has continued at such a pace that last year' s building
permit aggregate broke the boom-time construction record of 1925
by more than $6,000,000;
WHEREAS, Miami Beach' s world-wide promotion campaigns have
considerably increased the revenues of railroads serving Florida;
WHEREAS, the Florida East Coast Railway and the Seaboard
Air Line Railroad companies have neglected to provide ticket
office facilities in Miami Beach for the convenience of the city' s
visitors and residents;
WHEREAS, the operation of ticket offices in Miami Beach
would discourage sales of tickets at premiums;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Miami Beach, Florida, that the Florida East Coast Railway
and Seaboard Air Line Railroad companies be urged and requested
again to establish and maintain railroad ticket offices in the
City of Miami Beach.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be
sent to officials of the Florida East Coast Railway and Seaboard
Air Line Railroad companies.
